How to use Stamps with Ink by Kathleen Rosenfield July 2022
If you are just starting your card making journey, you may be wondering how to use stamps with ink. In other words, how to begin using ink without covering yourself and your surroundings with it. No worries, I will tell you how easy it can be.
The beauty of card making is you can truly make some beautiful works of art with just stamps, ink and paper. All of the other super-duper tools are great but if you’re just beginning to stamp or you want to take a few supplies somewhere, like a vacation spot, just bring stamps, ink and paper. For example, I go to Maine every August for a week and make some Christmas cards with very few supplies, on a nice, screened in porch!
Get Ready to Ink up your Stamps:
How to:
- Prep your surroundings.
Using a desk, card table or kitchen table, clear your work space so you can spread supplies out!
Find something to put down to protect the surface such as a smooth placemat, grid paper or an oil cloth. I like the grid paper because you can practice stamping right on it.
Lay out supplies and just practice at first. - Place a stamp on a clear block or Stamparatus (see supplies).
Hold the ink pad over the stamp and gently tap, tap, tap the ink on the stamp.
Stamp onto the paper and, without rocking the stamp, just press down for a couple of seconds using the palm of your hand.
Remember don’t rock the block!
If you don’t get complete coverage, keep practicing tapping the ink onto the stamp.
Here is where I put in a plug for the Stamparatus. LOL! As long as you don’t move the stamp or the paper, you can stamp the image again and again until you are happy with the coverage.
IMHO, it is the best item you can own, besides your car of course! - If you wish to learn how to add your card front to a card please check out my post on Size of A2 cards which will tell you how to measure, cut and score card stock to put it all together.

Product ListTo Sum Up:
This is the card I chose to make using just stamps, ink and paper. As a result, I used only the supplies listed above. Of course, use any stamp set or ink colors you like. I chose these particular colors because 4 of them are the new Stampin’ Up ”In Colors” for 2022 -2024. The Daffodil Delight is not new but is one of my favorite colors. When I was finished, I couldn’t resist running the card front through my embossing machine using Painted Texture Embossing Folder. Totally not necessary for this picture perfect card but I got carried away LOL!
